BFC and Bicester Village Shopping Collection by Value Retail hosted a webinar last week on their experience and learnings from China. For those who missed this live, you can watch the recording here.

Simon Williamson, Chief Merchant at Value Retail China, and Sylvie Freund-Pickavance, Strategy and Business Development Director at Value Retail, talked about their 4-phase approach to re-opening  their villages in China, including key considerations on people’s safety and communication strategy.

Prompted by questions from the audience, they also compared their China post-Coronavirus response to their plan of action for their villages in Europe, which have also started to re-open, outlining analogies and differences.

Attendees also enquired about a potential behavioural shift of the Chinese luxury consumer, in the light of the recent crisis, asking if they are still very reactive to newness. The deduced answer was that they don't expect such change and that the usual hunger for newness is still there.

Finally, the Value Retail strategy for excess stock was discussed, and how this will impact their pop-up strategy, alongside the impact this will have on their relationship with more emerging brands.
