Textiles Recycling and Re-use Small Scale Grant: An Update

Jun 2020

In March, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) worked with WRAP to relaunch a small scale textiles grant scheme to support recycling and reuse in the sector. Given the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the textiles reuse and recycling sector, some important amendments have been made to the grant scheme this week to ensure funds are accessible rapidly amid the current climate.

The deadline of 18th June no longer applies, and grant monies can be used to fund up to 100% of eligible project costs. The grant will now be released in advanced milestones payments, and can be used to fund capital costs associated with business reconfiguration due to Covid-19 safety measures, where this forms an integral part of an innovative proposal/project.

The scheme makes up to £1.5 million is available for textiles projects in England. Grant awards will range in value from £20,000 to £170,000, and are restricted to capital expenditure only. The money is part of Defra’s £18m Resource Action Fund, set up to support key priority policy areas.
